Overview

The Dickow KMV is the vertical, space-saving inline version of Dickow's KM series of sealless magnetic drive centrifugal pumps. A one-piece, weld-free static containment shell forms a closed system with a hermetically sealed liquid end. It replaces double acting mechanical seals together with their external fluid reservoirs and control equipment, and the pump runs maintenance-free.

Key specs (KM series, Dickow bulletin): maximum capacity about 70 m³/h (300 gpm) and differential head 65 m (213 ft). Temperature range is −30°C to 200°C (390°F), and working pressure is 16 bar (232 psi). Maximum drive power is about 17 kW at 2900 rpm (28 hp at 3500 rpm).

Construction: a multipolar cobalt samarium rare earth magnetic coupling works as a synchronous drive. Outer magnets pass torque through the containment shell to inner magnets that drive the impeller directly. The coupling is rated so that a blocked impeller will not demagnetize it, provided temperature is monitored. Clearances are set so the outer magnets cannot rub the shell. Sleeve bearings are pure sintered silicon carbide, and an internal circulation removes heat from the magnet area. The coupling can be strengthened with more magnets if a larger impeller is fitted later.

Uses: compact, leak-free transfer of toxic, explosive or air-reactive liquids where floor space is tight, such as skids and package units in chemical and petrochemical plants.

DICKOW-pumps of the series KM are sealless centrifugal pumps. The static containment shell forms a closed system with hermetically sealed liquid end. Type KMV is available as a space saving vertical inline-design.

APPLICATIONS

Magnetic driven KM-pumps are designed to improve plant and personnel safety, especially when handling toxic, explosive or other dangerous liquids which react on contact with the atmosphere. The KM-pumps operate maintenance-free and their containment shells replace double acting mechanical seals with external fluid reservoirs and the necessary control equipment. Maximum capacity appr. 70 m3/h (300 US-gpm), differential head 65 mLC (213 ft). Temperature range -30°C to 200°C (390°F), working pressure 16 bar (232 psi).
